Prairie Dragons competing at the 2023 PACCC in Panama

It’s paddles up, for the Prairie Dragons Paddling Club from Regina.
The 2023 Pan American Club Crew Championships (PACCC) will be held in Panama City, Panama. The Prairie Dragons will be sending a competitive consisting of 14 athletes to compete in the Premier Mixed and Open race categories.
The championship runs from Thursday, March 16th through Sunday, March 19th with approximately 1500 athletes competing from over 37 clubs across Pan American countries including Argentina, Brasil, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, United States, and Trinidad & Tobago. Crews will compete in small dragon boats for 10 paddlers, plus a steerer and drummer, in 200m, 500m, 1,000m and 2,000m races.
The sport of dragon boating originated from China over 2500 years ago, and has grown to be a recreational and completive sport enjoyed by people of all ages, all over the world. The Prairie Dragons Paddling Club is a all-ages club whose core focus is to be a diverse community of dragon boat enthusiasts united for fun, wellness, sport, recreation, and competition. This year’s team consists of a majority of beginner paddlers whose goal it has been over the winter months to get into shape and ready for a international competition of this caliber.
